toddlers can't interact with extended family?

So idk if this is happening with anyone else? But my toddler can't interact with his extended family but he can interact with strangers? So one of my sims married Dina Caliente and had a baby with her. He is now a toddler and I thought it'd be cool for him to get to know his grandmother and other relatives. Yet every time they randomly come over and I invite them in my toddler has no interaction with them!

Yes, this happens to me. If the toddler has the charmer trait they have that hugging option and then that creates a relationship after which they can interact, but toddlers with other traits often have no interactions with visiting family members. I'm not sure if that's a bug or a weird programming choice.

Somebody mentioned having the toddler show them a toy to get around this.

It’s super annoying though, especially because they can talk to complete strangers but Grandma is too intimidating or something?

It has its own thread marked as open in the bug forum since 4 years ago , and they never bothered to fix it.

I have no idea why they didn't fix it. For those who are willing to use mods, it is fixed with my toddlerstrangerfix mod. It was originally designed for toddler to toddler interaction but has been enhanced to fix the bug mentioned here as well.
