I've been playing near the Arts Center and I scrolled the camera a little too far accidentally and went through the Arts Center building, noticing that all the objects inside (I placed several large, noticeable objects to make it a more varied place) were loaded anyway. Argh. All it seems to be is inactive with Sims unable to go there. A loading screen surely isn't needed to change that.
I noticed that the outdoor lots are empty and sad but I'm now mad at myself for not thinking further about how they don't need to be loaded at all during that "loading" screen time. What's up? :s
The Sims 3 and 2 achieved this movement/switching differently, in their own ways. Sometimes we don't need full loading screens but maybe a little symbol on a darkened screen while it de-loads, say, the apartment, and then loads up or "activates" the "other lot."
I don't really like visiting apartment neighbors much so in ts2 I haven't seen how that works, but it sounds like they did it well. ts3 had objects go back and forth from full color to gray, similar to "de-loading." Now, we have apartments sometimes blackened and sometimes with that cool ceiling overhead. The game could just more QUIETLY do that to our own apartments when we head to the building next door or the apartment next door. Block/black out access to our place and start loading up the objects. Would that be so bad?
And the issue mentioned with TS3 is not similar to my experience. Plus I LOVE watching Sims travel and I play on slowed time, so for me it wouldn't matter.
Anyway, it's really frustrating when my Sims are standing right outside the place and then go through a loading screen, and can't even bring their hamburger with 'em. So much for multitasking. Sometimes I like to have a Sim "enter through the back" but the game won't let me. Not all lots disallow foods, what about casual outdoor parks? Ooh, what about all the sadly empty outdoor any lots near any other lot? :( Although, that's the opposite "issue" to the one I noticed with that Arts Center.
Obviously all the outdoor lots (and probably indoor too) are fully loaded so I wonder how we put up with a whole loading screen basically just to "DE-LOAD" the last lot (not really unless an apartment) and tell Sims where to travel and not. UGH!
Also, when visiting the Arts Center, most Sims were where they had been except the violin busker was gone. NOT SMOOTH. :( :( :(
This got a little rambly / ranty because I just now got more upset over this. I should have been more upset before, or consistently, rather. Sorry if the reply is a mess. o:)
