It takes less time in a loading screen than it did to travel across the map in Sims 3. This is Sims 4, not Sims 3 and many of us like it like that. I hated how long it took to get places in Sims 3. I love in Sims 4 how easy it is to click on the phone pick your companions and boom, you are on your way. Pick a destination (In any world - not confined to one) and you are there. That is the beauty of Sims 4.
I already replied about my different experience with TS3 but I now realized I have more to say.
I'm a realism player mostly (I also like witches, haha) and I HATE how easy it is to click on the phone and boom. Hate. I almost never do it, and when I do it might be by accident (the stupid elevators).
I like sending my Sims to walk to the edge of the neighborhood or maybe into their garages and *pretend*. I like clicking the home button so they walk to the de-spawn point (and hate how they've started to drop "go home" from the queue). I liked how I accidentally made a teen late for curfew the first time visiting San Myshuno because we didn't know our way around and I sent him walking about first. ;) I like the mod that allows clickable cars for travel. I like ts2 cars and ts3 mopeds, etc.
I hate the elevators. I hate when I forget that clicking travel on the elevator just has a Sim whip out his or her phone instead of at least vanishing in front of the elevator. I also hate the vanishing in front of the elevator, not even really walking right up to it and poofing through the door. *sigh* WHY NOT THAT TINY EXTRA TINY BIT?! ...Ahem...
I like watching my Sims walk their dogs around the scenic worlds, oh and about worlds... TS4 worlds cannot be compared to worlds from the past games. Obviously smaller and much more limited, but I'm not really saying each "world" is worse except for collectively being so small (compare to TS2 and sub-hoods). If we had CAW I'd readily admit TS4 worlds are great, but I so badly want more space, so it's hard because I'm not satisfied by far. Anyway, IMO it's a game made for just one save game with all the same Sims in every "world" no matter where their house is. There's one high school and one elementary school, and teens and kids make friends with each other while there, somehow. So of course we can travel almost all over, for better or worse.
If I want to make a new, themed, save (I'd like to make an even Barbier "world" err save game) it would seem like so much work making sure every lot and person is wiped or replaced that I'd just rather not. There are "blank" save files, I think, but I don't know about pack compatibility and they wouldn't be future proof for EP 5, etc. It's still more tedium than starting a new save in an actually new world for a different theme / different Sims. And I HATE deleting Sims! Plus downloading ALL new lots from the gallery is so much more work than downloading a ts3 world or ts2 hood, complete with a lot of loading screens (and remembering to cheat MOO just in case). ... But I digress just a bit. A bit. It's still pertinent. o:)
Obviously some people are way less pickier than I. I
have noticed that. o:)
In a way
I like (prefer!!) this one-save, one-world style (though it'd be even better with the possibility to add unlimited sub-hoods) but that doesn't mean ts4 worlds can
compare to 2 or 3. Different fruits entirely.
Sims 4 does have plenty of beauty but IMHO the connectivity is just one aspect and the easy teleportation is actually part it's more ugly side.
