Move him in, then manually split the household to put him in a vacant property. What I'd try, in your shoes, anyway.
It all happened that fast, I was about to greet him friendly, even though he'd been training my sim for awhile, but I focused on my other sim, and by then he was gone.
I'll need to go back there and see if he appears again and do that. Thanks for the tip.
