Trees v. bushes v. flowers/veggies

As part of my prep for Cottage Living, I'm going through and making small tweaks to some of my existing lots. Space for a chicken coop, an extra raised bed for the new berries, etc. So I've been thinking a lot about the existing state of gardening.

Bugs aside, one of the things that used to annoy me to no end was that trees would always revert to a dirt pile at the end of their growing season. I hated this with a fiery passion, because (a) obviously trees don't do that in real life, and (b) I wanted to use fully grown trees as part of year-round landscaping, again, as one does in real life. Now, eventually they fixed this, and mostly this works as it should in my game now. Meanwhile, obviously your tomato plants and your tulips and such should die back to the ground at the end of their season(s), because that is in fact what they do in real life. But the bushes still bother me. Roses and holly and other bushes obviously don't flower out of season, but they do remain full (and even continue growing) almost year-round, and they certainly don't die all the way back to the ground. They can also be an attractive part of year-round landscaping, just like trees.

So, it's not particularly urgent, but I hope this is something the team will tweak at some point. I like having rose bushes on either side of the front porch for many of my households, and it's so depressing to see that big dirt blotch there most of the year when instead they could have nice full shrubs even when there are no flowers.

  • It would be great if they knew the difference between annuals and perennials, and if the plants would behave differently in different climates, so there would be an advantage to living in a tropical climate vs a northern one.

I like to graft various flowers onto sage plants because the plant is always in season and I also like to flank porch steps with some cute bushes.

    That's a smart idea!
  • I don't like the current bush plant mesh they use for all plants. Carrots, onions, and tulips don't grow in a bush form in real life, and some of these plants could be real pretty and decorative too. Onion and garlic, for example, if not harvested, will grow a beautiful ball shaped flower later in the year. Roses will start blooming in May and will keep flowering until first snow. They will also usually have very conspicuous flowers not the barely visible flowers they have in game.
  • @Amapola76 trees reverting is a bug. My trees don't revert when not in season.

I'm not talking about the more recent issues with plants reverting. I'm talking about years ago, trees always reverted to dirt piles. Even pre-Seasons, they would revert every time you left the neighborhood. It stopped being an issue years ago. Even with the more recent plant bugs, my trees are fine.
