TS4 is so depressing now.

You can change the settings for that particular family so they won't die. You just need to go into neighborhood management and change the story setting for the family that sim is in.

You can control what kinds of story progression you allow down to the households in the settings.

It wasn't the family I was playing, it was a NPC. The NPC just up and died. For no reason I can see.

I liked the rain on my wedding day.

Even for townies or npc you can adjust the setting so they specifically won't die in the story progression. I have a few npc from university that I turned off death for as they were soccer teammates with my Sim.

It's managed through the households option.

Haha! I feel you on that one. I lost my favorite sim in the latest save. The family had just moved into their big house and jobs were all good. The toddlers had grown into children now and everyone was happy. My sim shocked herself working on the robotics workstation so she was dazed. She decided to wander outside in a thunderstorm and was hit by lightning and died. I was so stunned I had to let that be the end for her. The family gathered to mourn and has to move out of the house they can't afford now. It's a bummer to log into that family right now! lol

Gosh, we used to have random deaths quite often back in Sims2. Gave a certain edginess to the game, I always thought. A challenge to keep my
Sims alive. I made certain to set the this new introduction into the game to protect my active families. Once the YAs move out and onto Uni, I will set their parents' household to allow Dad to retire, but I have allowed NPCs to have whatever the game throws at them. I am in the habit of creating and playing, only, my own Sims, though. I'm so sorry for your loss. Can you roll back a save or two to try to prevent the death?

The only thing ironic about that song is that nothing in it is ironic. Anywho - roll back a save and set their household for no deaths. If you haven't found the settings yet, it's under Manage Households in Manage World - go into the Other Households and either set them all for no death or track her down and set just her household as no death. This will not affect played sims, as neighborhood stories are off by default - and have separate settings.

Yeah, maybe it's an unpopular opinion but I kinda liked that which is why I have now downloaded mods which make sims more prone to die by accidents. E.g. I enabled autonomous repairs with MCCC then combined it with "deadlier electrocutions" mod :D (which basically follows TS2 rules). Vampires too have a risk factor now if they drink deeply and it's always deadly if they drink uncontrollably making it very important for me to not let them starve.

But yes, when it comes to this new Neighborhood stories I too made sure to protect any family I care about. If they die then I'd like to be there to witness what happened instead of them randomly dying behind the scenes and being notified by some more or less accurate message. I do really love how this system let's me customize everything. I think it's something TS3's storyprogression desperately needed.

Alas, Neil Patrick Harris is dead, eaten by a cowplant. He left a pregnant wife (not my doing, I forgot to make his husband and MCCC married him off like, immediately, and I just rolled with it) and a toddler girl. Very sad. I immediately set all my celebrity sim households to no accidental death.

Also lately in my game, Mark Ruffalo knocked up ScarJo. I find this hilarious. Especially since he then went on to marry my sim's cousin.

Anybody in the southeast, praying for ya'll and hope you'll do the same for us. It's ugly outside.

Yeah, I've used Vampires Can Kill and a couple of others to keep Vampires dangerous for a long time now. While Vlad's nightly visits are certainly a rare thing now, they're freaking terrifying when he shows up to a Scenario house ready to wreck the game LOL!
