Sounds like pretty regular stuff ;p They started off rough, carved their way into high society and now they just run things legally, its not all pretty ofcourse but you cant stay on top without a few corpses in your weardrobe ;p
When I think of feared, I think more the sorts of House Bolton or The Eye Lord from Mordor(whatever his name was ;p) or Voldemort.

FairlyFairyXOXO The "Great Eye" in Lord of the Rings is Sauron. He was definitely feared.
