University - any difference between Dorm and Residential?

so far I have attended from home and, base on comments, it's a whole lot easier. Going to class is like going to work. You click go to class and you go. No trying to get into a building or any of that BS. What I haven't figured out is when a term begins and how to start one over a weekend so you can get the initial homework out of the way.
