Depending on what day you start the term, it can be difficult to get everything done, especially if you have 3-4 classes. I usually aim for the term to start on either Wednesday or Thursday, that way they have the whole weekend to get stuff like term papers or presentations done. I've only had my students take 2 classes at a time, and I've always managed to get A+ on everything. When they go to class, choose the "take notes" tone, which will also improve their grades without requiring extra work outside of class. Each course has a skill associated with it, and that skill will slowly increase as you go to class, do homework, work on projects, study, etc, but you can also build the skill independently and that's supposed to help your grade, as well.
As for the university extracurriculars, I had one student on the soccer team, and that made things more difficult because she had practice or a game just about every evening, which cut into her available time to do schoolwork. I had another student on the debate team, which was a lot easier because you don't necessarily need to go to the practices, bar night, etc, so you have a bit more freedom and flexibility to prioritize schoolwork.
