The firepit is definitely glitched - when OT first came out - Sims could sit in the log loveseats around the firepits that are already set up there and they could also kneel at them - they can do neither anymore.
I feel your pain with the camping gear placement - always got on my nerves which is why my sims go to cabins now and I never use the camping spot anymore.
