To me, vacationing isn't really about doing "vacation activities." My sims predominantly stay in their home world and a "neighbouring" world. This adds more realism and immersion to me, as well as a sense of uniqueness to save files. I love being able to freely travel between all worlds, but if done all the time it doesn't really matter where I make my sim live. I don't like traveling to Windenburg for a party when I view my sim as living far away, unless they treat it as a getaway/sleepover. This gives some consequence to where my sims live, impacting their lifestyles and making travel more meaningful or even a lifestyle of its own.
To make each world more unique, I add a lot of community lots to the worlds. I like exploring restaurants, libraries, museums etc, the same way I travel in real life - not too bothered with tourist attractions (or in this case vacation activities like skiing, exploring temples etc) - just taking in the vibe of the streets. My sims often take a lot of pictures, paint scenes by reference and sometimes buy little souvenirs, and spend time in the B&B/hotel I built. B&Bs are really fun for me to build. They usually set the tone for my purpose of vacationing there.
Examples of B&Bs/hotels I'm planning:
I generally prefer making these B&Bs community lots, though, so other sims will be there as well. This is why I hope we get a hotel/resort/etc pack in the near future.

Examples of B&Bs/hotels I'm planning:
- Cute Victorian-French estate with relaxing gardens in rural Windenburg. A quiet holiday for reading, drinking tea, taking strolls and soaking up history (visiting Von Haunt estate, historical pubs, dancing in the ballroom etc) - maybe even courting or being courted by a chivalrous romantic.
- Vibrant, colourful, eccentric "converted townhouse rows" in Spice District of San Myshuno. Adventurous, "exotic" experience, making the most of the city life activities and cultures - experimenting with new foods, the bubble blower, festivals, meeting artistic sims etc.
- Luxurious spa hotel in San Myshuno penthouse. A getaway for rich sims to gossip while being pampered, eat at fancy restaurants and lounges, shop at high-end city malls, possibly find a rich spouse or affair candidate etc.
- Shabby motel in Oasis Springs. A weekend for classic bistro-style/pizza restaurants, "casinos," loose-moralled escapades etc. Or for simply being retro, stopping by on a road trip etc. Still waiting for milkshakes to be added to the game.
- Classic white and blue nautical style beach house in Brindleton Bay. A quiet holiday for eating fish and chips wrapped in newspaper, walking along the beach on a misty day, exploring arts and crafts markets, locking eyes with a sim through a fish net sculpture etc.
- Desert oasis, Moroccan-inspired resort in Oasis Springs (rich neighborhood) with emerald green tiled courtyard swimming pools etc. Nice for escaping cold climates during winter, as an alternative summery/beach-y escape to Sulani, for the aesthetic simstagram pictures, a honeymoon that is luxurious but still "down to earth" etc.
- Ridiculously luxurious, old money hotel with moody orange-tinted lighting and dark wood, leather chairs facing massive hearths in libraries/studies etc in Willow Creek. The only tasteful hotel that aristocrats would dare sleep in in the "increasingly vulgar world." Also great for academic/bookworm sims with big round glasses. Maybe even for a murder mystery.
- Bonus: vampire restaurant-hotel trap in Forgotten Hollow where the guests are the meal.
I generally prefer making these B&Bs community lots, though, so other sims will be there as well. This is why I hope we get a hotel/resort/etc pack in the near future.
