Only one chance per save! and only if everyone is asleep by 11! okay that explains it, partially...
What is supposed to happen during a vampire breakin?
You can partly see what is supposed to happen in this video:
https://youtu.be/kKWJYgAYSnw?si=mIrS3BU1Fv7wFCTA - The person, who has this channel, has done another video called “Vampire Vlad breaks in (again)” where you can see the complete event, I just thought the first one was funny.
If you don’t want to see too much beforehand, there’s also this link, which does, however, contain a picture of part of the event:
https://reddit.com/r/thesims/comments/5wwrq3/this_random_vampire_breaks_into_my_house/I’ve never had an actual vampire break-in in any of my saves. I got the pack, because it was on sale one time back when GPs would also be at 50% sometimes, so my intention wasn’t to play vampires right then and there, but just whenever I would get around to it. However, I think the save, I was playing at the time, is one of the few saves where Vlad actually called my sim straight away to complement her on her neck and then proceeded to come sneaking in the hallway the following night. I wasn’t ready for any of his antics just then so I immediately locked the door on him before he could enter. And since then I’ve pretty much only seen the same as you, i.e. that they come to the door at night and just stand there looking a little lost as if they’ve forgotten why they’re there. Except (and I hope Maxis doesn’t correct this at some point ?) when my sim in that initial save moved to Fountain View, here vampires will actually come in, though so far the only thing that has happened is Vlad starting to play the piano at a party my sims were having or sitting at the computer while my sims are fast asleep.
This person here managed to get an actual break-in:

Anyway, the has been a lot of debate on the nerfed break-ins and despite the garlic and the even better the option to lock doors specifically for vampires, it seems they’ve decided as of September this year that the feature is working as it should:
