I literally just completed this aspiration with my vampire sim, i just made her go to bed at like 9-10pm as I would a normal sim and she woke up around 5-6-7am every morning in her own. They do this in beds too. It's only when you make them hibernate that they don't wake up until you tell them too.
I found it more difficult avoiding the sun, my poor sim had to sit in the cabin all day.

For real. I mean I suspected they might come out if their moods dropped low, I just think it's a bit ridiculous to have to almost kill them to complete a not-so-great aspiration.
I'm sure it's an oversight. It seems like the design of waiting for the Sim to cancel their sleep is just a way to ensure players don't cheat the system by going in and out of the tent five times, it just doesn't work for vampires, who can sleep for centuries.
Maybe he had a vampire with a certain career though? I wouldn't be too surprised if a rogue career or two actually had them wake up.
