I was really excited about Wants and Fears when I heard about them. It ought to be perfect for my "story save," adding depth to our lead Sim's story by giving me prompts for things he would realistically want to do and bringing to mind things he would realistically be concerned about. I haven't touched my main save since the patches, because I'm too concerned about the havoc that will ensue. And, while I haven't spent years playing this save, like many of you have, I've still put lots of time into it. So has my daughter, who's my Simming pal. We'd hate to see it spoiled.
A few months ago, Z and I created our own Wants system. We made a set of tables that list things our Sim might want to do. We roll a 20-sided die and let it help him make up his mind.
Our system doesn't lead Cameron to flirt with random townies, endangering his new romance. It remains true to the sexual orientation we chose for him. It includes all the expansions we own, and is expandable when (if?) we add new ones. It's flexible, reflecting activities he learns to like and including other Sims he develops friendships and animosities with. It's been thoroughly play-tested, and it's almost completely free from glitches and bugs. The worst glitch occurred when I rolled the d20 off the table and our cat batted it through the dining room with her paws.
I wish EA had rolled out a system that works as well as ours does...
