I enjoy open world. I enjoy the freedom of having one sim out running errands while the other is at home preparing dinner. It comes with limitations but the benefits outweighs that for me.
It's too late for Sims 4 but I hope Sims 5 brings back open worlds while also giving us the worldbuilding freedom Sims 2 did. That is no more restricted community lots like Sims 4 or rabbit holes from Sims 3 - (although rabbit holes were in some circumstances optional) and a world creation tool because I don't like only depending on Maxis for worlds.
For myself, that would be the nice golden spot.
