You know we can see you're an EA employee, right?
I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve with that comment @DeservedCriticism. It's fairly obvious that we do work for EA as all of our names start with "EA". Would you care to elaborate? As it currently stands it's coming off that you're implying we can't enjoy the Sims which is an odd stance to have.
Might come as shock but we're gamers and all huge fans of the Sims and the Sims community. We tend to buy products we like. I personally have a huge League of Legends figurine collection ^^ They are just too cute! @EA_Mage has so much Sims memorabilia it's crazy :D. @EA_Leeloo is just as bad and don't get me started on @EA_Spectre and @EA_Mai  "DeservedCriticism;c-16180281" wrote:

That's a really good idea.
I don't think there's anything I'd purchase right now, but some things are cute. I'd like to see a night shirt with something on it, I would consider that.- ladybreid8 years agoSeasoned Ace

Plenty of slogans and such they could do that would be appealing to wear, but as I said these look like minimal effort was put into them.
I hope they see those. I would completely love those two things "EA_Lanna;c-16180553" wrote:

I'm not doubting EA employees can enjoy the game too, but regardless of what the actual intent is behind the posts, when two EA employees are on page one of a thread announcing new EA merchandise (don't think I've ever seen two on one page before) and both are implying the stuff looks AMAZING and they can't wait to buy it, then all that comes to mind for me is:

Let me word this another way: Do you think it doesn't happen that companies tell their employees to plug new products on public forums? I can tell you right now it does because my company asked me to do exactly that when they released a new product line. Granted, I hate dishonesty, so I only plugged the two products I personally found to be especially good, but would I have written a review for them on my own accord...? Never, I did it because I was asked to. And yes, if I tell my friends this product my company sells is super, I expect them to be skeptical and to second-guess my intentions. I wouldn't take it personal, I'd think they're being logical.
Your situation may be similar to mine, it may be completely of your own accord, and it might be something you felt forced to do. I don't know, I admit I don't know, but yeah I'm also gonna second-guess those posts. I think it'd be naive of me if I didn't. In that regard we just have to agree to disagree.
What I can comment on is that yes, I get a "Hello Fellow Kids" vibe from such posts and I'm sure I'm not alone. Whether that bothers you all or not, that's up to you. You're well within your rights to make such posts regardless. I'm not hoping to stop them or something. All I'm hoping to achieve here is explain my perspective, and my perspective is it's off-putting.- EA_Lanna8 years ago

Ah ok, so it was an insinuation that EA_Mage was plugging merch. I guess we're lucky our company doesn't make that request of us :) That's not our job thankfully. We're here strictly to moderate and engage on the forums for the health of the community but as gamers and fans we like to nerd out aswell by talking with the community.
Your comment would dissuade us from ever joining in conversations. To me it read as intentionally rude and disruptive but thank you for clarifying. Noted @DeservedCriticism

Hey you're welcome to do whatever you want, I'm just saying people are gonna interpret it a certain way. If you don't care and post anyways, good for you. And by all means join conversations cause I think it makes for a nice community employees engage with fans, I just find it an odd coincidence that this topic is where I suddenly find three EA employees wanting to chat about it. I mean you said yourself you and others enjoy the game. The game itself is discussed around the clock and all of you are free to join in on any discussion of the game, yet it was this one regarding merchandise where the EA employee participation spiked, and yeah, it looks odd."EA_Lanna;c-16180856" wrote:

As a moderator I'm surprised that you haven't noticed many more of @DeservedConstantCriticism 's comments reading like this on a lot of threads.
@DeservedCriticism It strikes me as slightly weird that you believe as people who work for EA they have to be falsely pushing that they like the product, some people get jobs because they like the company. I'm not saying it's impossible, but you make very quick work of assuming what other people's motives are.
Maybe you should seek to find a more fulfilling job if they constantly make you feel forced to sell a plum product.
I'm personally not feeling like I'll buy any of this stuff (for myself, at least), but that's because I'd rather spend my money elsewhere right now, that doesn't give me the right to tell everybody that because I'm not fussed that they shouldn't be.
As an attempt to not lead this thread totally astray I'll leave it there and say I have a few christmas presents in mind!- EA_Lanna8 years ago

Just as a last comment with some extra input (because I'm vocal, opinionated, love the value of communication and I'm annoying like that)...?
I do think more discussion between staff and community makes for a nice community, so I don't want to discourage that. Personally I think participation in threads is great and desired from community members unless:
1) The quality of a product or feature is being actively debated and discussed. (example, Toddler Ball Pit texture) Same thing: people will wonder if opinions voiced are sincere and I even think people will feel pressured not to voice opinions opposing that of the staff. Some people react allergic to authority and never want to cross it, so even if no issues arise, the issue might be that people were less active in the discussion out of fear of disagreeing with authority. This can also sway opinions without even intending to. I remember another game forum I posted on, a dev quoted me once and said I had a great idea. That dev got hundreds of upvotes and I got hundreds of upvotes. Before the dev had commented though...? My comment had a usual amount of upvotes.
2) Examples like here where a product is being revealed. Makes you question the intent (whether warranted or not) and sours the mood for some. I'd describe this as a "crime" without a guilty party, because I think the rights of staff to post their opinions should absolutely be respected, but it likewise makes all the sense in the world for people to be skeptic. This problem occurs automatically without any outrageous acts on behalf of the staff or the fans.
I think a lot of players would find it neat to see staff participating in threads otherwise though. Personally I've always enjoyed gaming communities more when devs and staff had a more on-hand approach and interacted with the community. Those two are just the ones where I personally expect some sort of "conflict" to arise through no fault of the staff or fans just because it leaves everyone second-guessing themselves.
But I'll shutup now, just felt like making it clear that usually I'd encourage staff forum participation.- EA_Spectre8 years ago

*cough cough* And now let's all get back on topic or an admin may have to close this thread ... ;)
@ Everyone who is hesitant to wear a Sims shirt: I think some of the shirts are so subtle that people won't understand that they are about The Sims if they don't know the game. And if they do, it may be a great conversation starter.
But then, everyone here wears geeky shirts. I'm rocking Eevee and all its evolutions on my shirt today. :)
Our desks are also very video game inspired. I have a whole collection of Disney Infinity Star Wars statues here. :D
