Well, my desktop is fried *New Update, and It's Excellent!!!*

I just went ahead and got an unregulated power supply for our desktop a few years back. Not only will it protect the PC from power surges, it also acts as a backup battery so you can save your work before shutting down. :) I highly recommend getting one next time.

And like the others said, it might just be your computer's power supply unit that broke, while everything is still fine. There's a good chance it's still salvageable.
