Well, that was a mistake (social media)

I've now got an option to add advertising to my Sim's social media blog. I think it's new, but maybe I've just never had a Sim with the right requirements. In any case, Ryland added advertising for a minor product, and lost half his followers for selling out! I was so upset - I almost deleted his social media profile and had him start over. (Granted, he's obscenely wealthy, as the 8th generation of a legacy family, but his followers don't know that.)

Poor guy - he's an elder, and he's maxed out all his skills and has run out of things to do. His whole life is social media, his garden and meditating on the meditation stool.

  • Awww, at his age he should be allowed to sell out without upsetting people, he's earned it!

I had the same result the one time I had a sim do the same thing, a few generations back. Pretty sure there's a perk you can get with fame points that mitigates the chance of fan backlash like that though (my sim didn't have it..but I'm sure I saw it in the tree of choices when spending the points on various sims).
  • With the social media - the advertizing or the rant will have you lose many followers. You learn not to use those options.

Well, there goes my dream of being a corporate shill.

You can still be a corporate shill but will need GF and use the media and camera object. My one sim is in the social media career and she has made a few videos, now she gets calls from "sponsors" to make certain types of videos. Well my sim who has maxed out the new skill, does not get calls. It could have to do with perks from being famous.
  • ^ Yeah, I have the Corporate Sponsorship perk on one of my kid sims. Kind of weird when they asked her to do a video sponsoring WooHoo products, though.

I got him Jungle Adventures last night, but he finished reading all the Archeology books in three days. I can't let him die off yet, though - I still need the quill fruit and he can't get that until summer.

The option for rants hasn't appeared for him - just videos and images. (He's not really a ranty kind of guy, unless you count talking to his plants. And he mostly seems to tell them they're freydeshay.)
  • I stopped having my Global Superstar promote songs or digital books for the same reason. He kept losing too many of his Simstagram followers. He got as high as 50,000+ only to have him slump back down to the mid 40,000+. This is unacceptable. Since he makes 10,000 per concert and now with his maxed out modeling skills, he receives a cool 10,000 just to be on the cover of the magazine, he no longer needs the petty cash. I'm working now, on getting his number of followers as high as possible.

He's also in the market for a sweetheart, too.
