Sorry the life part of that sentence was an accidentally typo (I was replying on my phone lol). Your library is where all your sims and lots that are local to your game are stored. Like when you go into CAS and you make a new sim and save it it goes into your library. That's where everything in your Tray file will be located.
The Gallery is where you can go to download other people's creation and add them to your game.
You can also upload anything from your library to your profile on the gallery. Anything that you've actually uploaded to the gallery will still be there even if your game crashes and you loose everything so some people use it as a cloud back up for their library since the stuff in your library is localized to only your computer so if your game every gets wiped you'll loose everything there.
