Pop ups and online connections definitely cause problems for me. Especially non-EA popups from Windows or a graphics card. Windows is my biggest problem right now, and I expect it to get worse. I disabled the Edge browser because it would not stop trying to take over my computer and the next update broke Windows. I had to reinstall Windows entirely to fix it. Microsoft is doing some new stuff and I do not dare try to stop them this time. I am not going to win this fight. I just constantly click out of everything that pops up.
Software developers are not allowed to discuss what they know about the changes in Windows. When we are blaming them for what Windows is doing, they cannot defend themselves. I think we are going to need to give EA the benefit of the doubt that they are not our enemy and instead co-victims. I think over the next few years, we will be squeezed out of playing games the way we love to play them. I am enjoying this for as long as I can, and on the way to the end, I am not going to lay the blame on EA. Maybe I am wrong, but I don't think they are the cause of the EA app
s problems. Could they work even harder to make it work no matter what Microsoft does? Maybe. But ... at what point are they allowed some slack? I don't know the answers to these questions. I am just going to play the best that I can, and leave the answers to these questions to people smarter than me.
I save constantly. I close all software and restart my computer a couple times a day. I make back up copies of my entire Sims 4 folder every couple days.
I'm on Win8.1 including the promise that there won't be more Win updates. But I agree, there are lots of mechanics needing to work together in a computer, and not always obvious what causes a given problem. Never have general problems with my Win 8.1 though, and I don't expect to be affected but the "new things" to come from them. I have turned off a lot of Win background activities that takes up resources when I want as good performance as possible, like the constant indexing of folder content in case I want to open a folder and should get a better "user experience". With the feature turned off it takes a few seconds to see the content in the bigger folders, but I could not care less. There are plenty of background activities, I wish we could choose when they shall run, or at least if they had a set hour they did their job, and that I knew their schedule. I accept that some software want files from my pc, but I'd appreciate to decide (or know) when to share them. It would help a lot on performance, especially when recording videos.
