What age do you play a character? Considering child up

Hi all, I've been curious about this. I usually always play a young adult up but have trouble letting go due to feeling attached. I was thinking of maybe having two sims I really like have a child...

I usually play Young Adults but then play with their kids if they get any. I did play as a teen brother and sister one time and it was pretty nice since I never made the parents enforce rules on them or anything. They were pretty wild.
