I have a sim who runs a store, and I noticed very quickly that something went missing. After finally figuring out who the culprit is, I have temporarily moved that sim in the household. Give her a haircut, make her walk across Windenburg naked.

Surgically remove the klepto trait.

Ask The Sims Studio to enable the “take back” feature that The Sims 2 had. When a Sim stole a gnome in that game, a Sim can autonomously go look for it. Then, it’ll be back in their inventory. Pretty cool stuff. :)

That Sim needs a makeover, so you can tell right away that they're a thief! Dress her all in prison stripes and... thought. Ever heard of a painting goblin? Have her work off the cost of what she stole. Since you moved her into your household, make her clean and stock and whatever else you can think of, for free, until her penance is paid.

What are some creative ideas on dealing with a thief?

My Nancy Landgraab likes to lock unpleasant people in her family safe, so they can starve to death surrounded by wealth that no longer does them any good. Sounds like a fitting end for a thief, too, doesn't it?
