I just cannot be mean to sims - so if anything bad does happen - I quickly try to rectify it. Even though it's just a game - I just cannot be like that with the Sims.
In the very first Sims game I once tried to kill a sim I just could not stand by putting her in a square room with no doors, no toilet, no skills, and just a grill and small fridge, and one chair. Well she started crying, pleading with me, got on her knees and pleaded with me to help her like I was God or something - until I reached the point I just could not take this and knocked down a wall to let her out.
I've never forgotten it and how awful I felt - it seriously makes me wonder how on earth people who play like that live with themselves - as i just could not do it - on top of it - it haunts me. For 19 years it has haunted me -so I go out of my way to be the best Sims God ever and see to it no harm comes to the little simmies and that they are as happy as possible.
I do play where I use no mods or cheats - so sometimes I really have to scramble keeping beginning households fed and safe - it's not always easy - of course it depends on the game - Sims 2 is the hardest to keep them happy when they are just starting out - but I do my best - as I just don't want any more memories of pixel people pleading with me to save them. That one was enough.
ETA - I tried a user made challenge in Sims 3 that featured a homeless father and daughter - and the dads traits made him real mean to the little girl so she was always crying, lonely, hungry, and dirty. I took it as long as I could - and then I cheated.... I took the dad into CAS and changed his traits. I took and sold everything on the homeless lot including the tall grass and used the money to get the sims sleeping bags, a cooler, an out house, and a few toys for the child. Sent dad to work - so of course I failed the entire challenge and cheated - but I didn't care.
I also tried the Runaway teen challenge in Sims 4 - well I failed at that one too.... sigh.
I have to say I am literally horrified by the first simmers post with the toddler... I just can't.... even talk about it.
Well I have succeeded at one thing - I did in that horrible Mother in Strangerville - I do have to say I was starting to feel sorry for the plant though - but I did somehow manage to stay my ground for once. LOL.
