I'm guilty of this too. In TS3, the main color for my sim was always their favorite color.
Not only did I use my Sims' favorite color in their clothing, but I also made sure to use it when decorating their bedroom (house). Sadly, there appeared to be little or no effect. I expected at least a 'mood' boost, if only temporary.
