Sorry, this took a while. I found something in build mode that might take me a while to fix. I fixed a bunch of things, but there is still more in the build to go over. Anyways, here's a progress update on the build template for the MerMay Build Challenge.
I created an extensive cave system around the shipwreck and set it up to look different with the time of day. Getting things to work took longer than expected, hence the delay with the update.
Now, the shipwreck looks different depending on when it's day, night, morning, and evening. The coral will also change with the time of day, glowing at night. A sunken ship would not be inside a cave, so I would to simulate it being outdoors while being 3 floors underground in the build. Making the underwater part of the build blend seamlessly with the land above is a part of the goal for the template.
As for the cave system, this will take me longer than I thought. I'm going to see if I can make the game recognize it as indoors and I'll need to play test it to confirm it is working properly. The lighting is so that players can see what they are doing when they go in to build, so I'll need to add lights in a lot of different rooms. What I am building is a template, not a completed build. So, I'm working on making it functional for players to modify as they want to. Rooms get very dark underground.
While I am doing things like this, I did want other people's opinion. Should I do something to make the caves appear more focused on Underwater Caves or should I leave them plainer so players can choose what they want to do?
As it is right now, you could turn these caves into Island Ruins, Underwater Merfolk Grottos, or the Interior of the Beach Cave. This build where the Admiral Wreckage would be in Sulani and it would be right next to the Sulani Beach cave.
Would players want me to account for potential spots in the cave that players can add pools to simulate the parts of the beach cave that involve swimming? Pools won't be added in the template but I can make sure it's possible to add pools without conflicts.

Before I return to the build, I want to complete a couple chapters of my story.

The shipwreck looks great! 🙂It is great that it will look different at various times of the day. Perhaps you could leave the caves more for simmers to choose how they want to develop them and also provide spots where they could add pools if they would like to.

I was thinking that too. The idea is to share a template on the gallery for other simmers to modify. I’m hoping that people share their progress with the build during the month of May.
I know that I plan on spending an hour everyday of that month developing the build for myself and sharing my progress here.
The caves will take a while to make sure there aren’t visual bugs with rain.- Ellupelluellu12 days agoHero
btw, I really like the night view of the cave 😍
