Something I want to do to challenge myself with gameplay is to only play my twins while they are in their merman form. I’m still thinking about how I’m going to do it.
Story wise, the twins are going to age up into merboys without the ability most merfolk have to go on land. Basically, the twins will not have a human form.

As for gameplay, I think it will be more challenging to limit where my Zalrian Pod merfolk can go. Since Alex made his deal with Damion, he will continue to be able to go on land in spite of Kemps’s Patriarchal Powers. So, whenever I want to explore the human world, I can use Alex to do so as long as he remains without his voice and Damion’s Magic remains in effect.
Outside of life on land, I’ll use the twins to enjoy mermadic gameplay.

Per Kemps’s Authority as the Zalrian Pod Patriarch, the younger members of the pod will not have a human form like other merfolk.
So, the only lots they can visit are simulated underwater environments or swimming in the ocean.
The other bit of lore I’m thinking about is a degree of permanence that comes with this decision. Like, Kemps doesn’t immediately turn to his Patriarchal Authority because that power is an old magic that came with the first pods. Similar to how Sea Witch Contracts become anchors for Sea Witch spells, charms, and curses, Patriarchs of a pod become the Anchor for the magic tied to their authority.
In other words, so long as Kemps lives and is the Patriarch, his authority he enforces remains.
In the technical area, the power is semi-permanent. Under normal circumstances, the Zalrian Pod will need special permission to go on land after Kemps enforces his authority. So, while this causes the pod to lose their human form, kemps can temporarily return it. But, once the time limit for using their human form is reached, the members of the pod will return to their original mermadic form.
As for why Kemps didn’t do something like this sooner, I imagine that he’s cautious about humans and would most definitely do whatever he thought was best if he didn’t listen to his younger brothers and their wives. Kemps makes the ultimate decisions for the pod, but he’s the kind of patriarch that seeks counsel with others in his pod. He makes rules, but his rules typically don’t use his Patriarchal Powers. He gives his pod a code to follow but still gives the younger members a lot of freedom.
After the first story arc, I think he has the motive to actually use his powers as the patriarch to enforce his authority.
