Oh yeah, the celebrity system in TS3 was awful. It was fine if you intended to have your sim famous. But in either case, it's always "your sim is now hated by the whole town because of a stupid rumor". And each time your relationships with everyone decrease permanently.
I think internet celebrities make sense nowadays too, because the internet is a new medium that's given an audience to a lot of people through non-traditional means. You got people like Smosh, Ryan Higa, King Bach, Markiplier, and tons more. Sure, they're not as well-known in the general public as Hollywood people, but they have a wide fanbase too.
