I like to download unfurnished houses most of the time. I'm not the best at building and am usually too lazy to even attempt it, but I still like to decorate my Sim's own space. What style, how many rooms, etc. really depends on the family that I'm playing. I usually like to have a few more rooms than Sims in the household, but even that's not something I do for every household. I don't pay attention to which packs are used since I have them all, but if there are too many routing issues from using MOO and I want a pre-furnished house for some reason, I will just find something else.
