What do you want for improved teens

i would love stuff like run away or parents are on a vaction and teen partys but....i mostly want cilques back like remember jocks,nerds,rebels

    This might sound stupid but I want a system so that "auto-aged" teen townies get distinctive fashion that set them apart from young adults and adults (it's everyone's "awkward"/"finding your style" state, make it more representative).

    The unified height has completely messed up teens in this game and this is an easy way of mitigating it that doesn't involve remaking the life state with new animations (which you know, would actually be fine. How long are we gonna suffer for the messy release of the game)
  • Teens need some sort of distinction from young adults, especially in the base game. I don't own Parenthood, so I don't have access to the "phases" and such. There should be teen parties (if that's not already a thing). On a broader scale, I kind of wish there was some sort of talents system; your teens discover what they're good at, and what they like. To go with that, of course, should be cheats to define/remove their talents. Because right now I mostly just make up their talents in my head. Teens should be shorter, as well.

    But @CK213 for the issue with sims sinking into the chairs you have to use a preset instead of a slider. If you use a preset for a shorter (teen) sim they will not sink in the chairs. I was thrilled when I learned this! I only use presets now. Same goes for taller sim presets.
    I do use it in combination with height slider for a few sims to get the preteen look. But they of course start to sink once you use the slider.


    What is a preset?
    The mod I am using has no adjustments or sliders.

    Presets are body shapes/ lip shapes/ any shape but in this case height that is already predefined for the sim. No sliders needed. The link above is an example.
  • I'ld want active high schools where teens would be able to choose subjects, prepare better for their uni degree or for their future profession, meet more friends and girl/boyfriends, a playable prom...


  • I know that much of our play is at least in part imaginary, because the game itself is not especially realistic, but imo the most glaringly obvious departures from reality occur during the teen years and I frankly I'd prefer that it was otherwise.

    In previous versions of the game, the kids graduated from school at a set point in the school year rather than when they aged up to young adults and on graduation they received a formal recognition of all their hard work and good attendance in the form of a diploma, but in this version of the game the whole high school experience is next to pointless and it ends abruptly without any overt reward.

    In addition, you get a lot of homework every single day, which gives you very little game time to skill build or socialise your teen sim, if you want to produce an academically high-achieving child and yet, surely, skill building and socialisation is the whole point of school.

    Equally, as the player, if you want your sims to fail and drop-out to tell a different kind of life story that should also be a valid option too, without the child being taken away, because in real life you can fail and can still turn it around later.

    While I agree that many aspects of the typical teenage experience is missing from the game, like rebellion and rule breaking I'd prefer to have the choice to engage this kind of behaviour, I don't want the game dynamics to force me into it. There's enough of that in the game already.

    I have parenthood installed and its hard enough to produce a well-rounded, successful child with the frequent mood swings generated. I don't want to add further dysfunction into my game. It would not improve my experience. However, I would like to see more teen specific activities and venues, aspiration and a non rabbit hole school experience with a properly structure school year, complete with holidays.




  • I personally think the whole teen thing is a slightly over hyped "problem" personally, teens aren't so out of the world different from an adult other than being in school, kill me for saying it but its what I think.

    What I would like is for teens to look a touch younger and shorter and for them to get a few new animations for interactions to keep them distinct. They can definitely make them shorter enough that they can still be compatible with adult clothes.

    To keep it as a list:

    • Shorter and younger looking
    • Some unique animations for activities etc
    • Some school party or event
    • Different schools, girls, boys, boarding etc etc with different impacts
    • Age group specific skill and bonus (like children have motor and get later life benefits for it) Or maybe an aspiration
    • Actual school environment that isn't a rabbit hole (this would actually be where being in that age group matters)
    • I loathe the clique system from TS3 as I thought it was just another way to stereotype people but perhaps "teen bullies"
    • Curfew (Life time reward to break it freely, entering adulthood converts this into something else or returns points)
    • Sneak Out
    • Grounding
    • Interactive school trips
    • Learning skills in school


    I think if we got Wants/Fears back it'd actually be a great push in making teens better, because its going to be one of the few ways to make their character matter as a teen. Fear's would play so well into their moods etc and it would also be able to mingle with sentiments. Why have the emotions system without a fleshed out Wants/Fears system? I'd also say, a pack of teen specific flaws as temporary traits.
    At the moment we just have the parenthood stuff which is very basic states but I think Wants/Fears could play on a teen sim having a deep flaw.
    Lets say,

    -Anxiety
    If the teen sim doesn't manage to beat this trait in their teen years it sticks with them, if they beat it then it doesn't give them anything other than a normal life and some aspiration points. Forced trait flaws would encourage people to engage with more of the parenthood gameplay seeing as its very easy to miss all those traits and wants+fears could be a big part of making parenthood more engaging. Ultimately, parenthood didn't give teens a unique teen characteristic it just gave them the chance to learn one for being an adult, it truly is a pack about being a parent not being a teen.

    We usually see teens as being more problematic than adults in some aspects, so we need to force that on them in the game. Parenthood didn't fix anything as it was completely about parents embedding morals etc into their kids non of it was the children's own problems other than the mood swings.

    If we were in the TS2 years I'd be confident they'd implement these negative teen traits alongside hidden results based on memories or actions they go through such as rather than just have anxiety in adulthood certain teen experiences would result in deep boldness and bravery forming from their teen anxiety or maybe just a normal life. Not everyone getting the same result from the same teen trait,

    I agree with the teen exaggeration. I was barely any different than I was as s teen as I am now in my 20's. And I'm pretty much even into the same stuff and like the same things. I wasn't extra short. Same height as my mom. No acne. People still ask what highschool I'm attending so I assume I even look the same. Same weight besides a few quarantine pounds ?
    I'm not saying they shouldn't add more features for teens because I would love it! I just agree about the exaggeration.

    And I didn't realize it at first but it's totally possible to get teens who look like teens! Granted I do use cc so that may effect the outcome. I learned that if you age a teen to an adult or adult to teen they look identical. I'm not sure how the game would even distinguish this automatically? People refuse to admit how hard face some of those teens looked in previous games they were just short!!??

    I learned you have to manually go into CAS and modify them to look more teenish or adultish. One day I'm going to line up all of my teens and post pics of them
    Plus as I mentioned before if you use a preset height mod it's better than height sliders for people who just want teens a bit shorter. And the off animations are barely noticeable. No sinking in chairs either and no glitches like height slider.

    Last if all I still believe that highschool teen pack is coming!!! No idea what they might add but I'm stoked for it??? hopefully some of your ideas are implemented I like them.
  • Give. Me. Pimples. It's annoying to have to apply them in CAS, and then remember to take them off. I want them to stress over breakouts and have to try things to treat it. Also, orthodontia--braces, retainers, nightguards. I want them to get food stuck in their braces and panic over misplacing their retainer. As someone with chronic acne and painful memories of orthodontia, I want my teen Sims to suffer as I did.

    Definitely more school-oriented activities--extracurriculars such as sports or clubs or student government. School dances. Dress codes (side-eyes teen Sim that just wandered out the door in her swimsuit).

    And--"GET INTO TROUBLE, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD." Gosh, all my teens are goody-goodies. And even if they do break curfew or smash their little brother's dollhouse, you have to manually make the adult scold them, which is sometimes too much of a drag to bother. I feel like if they do something in front of an adult, the adult should automatically discipline--maybe giving you a pop-up to choose how for those of us with Parenthood (calm, firm, strict). I also miss those rides of shame in the back of cop cars in Sims 3.
  • @TruthGamer96 I do understand but i think leaving it up to the player to enforce things is the only way to please both sides and leave it open ended.
    Some will complain about having things forced or their sim.acne, curfew, discipline etc.

    What about sim parents who are open to letting their kids be wild and free? My own sister told her 9 year old kid that she could "shout forbidden words" if she wanted to and doesn't care. She would never even discipline her for it ? I think not having these things automatic leaves it more sandboxy and less restricted.

    Yeah, that's true. And I do have Sims whose children are free range, so it would be detrimental to the narrative if they just started yelling at them out of nowhere.
