I think the future for traditional gaming as a whole looks pretty bleak honestly. This whole "games as a service" trend that all of the major AAA companies have adapted will mean more streamlining of features and content, and replaced with micro or macrotransactions with content which should have been in the base game, no doubt all for an exorbitant price. And this is not just EA/Maxis, Bethesda already got a head start on streamlining their beloved titles, monetizing mods, and alienating longtime players. Of course there will still be people who cling to the carcass of said franchise, continue to pay "X" amounts of dollars for each new pack, all while complaining how terrible the game is and how the Sims 4 was better, and will continue to cling on in hopes that the Sims 6 will be an improvement over the Sims 5.
