My daughter reminded me of another way we use Newcrest. She loves to create new Sims. A lucky few of them are cast as "leads," playable Sims who are the main characters in a save. Others are part of the "supporting cast" who are moved into towns, as friends or romantic interests of the "leads." Many of Z's creations live out their Sim lives as "extras," Townies who are pulled from the Gallery by MCCC to work as DJs, baristas, etc., or to fill out the student bodies at UBrite and Foxbury.
Z has created three or four saves that leave Newcrest completely blank. She then moves her created households into the vacant lots of Newcrest. If she senses they'll never be more than Townies, she groups them into eight-Sim collections with names like "Adult Townies." That way, when she saves them, MCCC will summon them when it's time for them to take their turn on the stage.
It helps to have empty lots to serve a "homes" for these Sims; Z has created dozens of them now. :)
