Remembering that Sims 4 is a different engine and everything is made from scratch, technically everything is new. As a result, I feel like the Devs use this as an opportunity to make new things.
On the whole, getting something radically new is kind of tough in a franchise as long-running as The Sims. We had Laundry before, we've got Laundry now, but more of it. That looks to be the trend for the forseeable future.
