What game mechanics do you want more insight on? Because I'll explain it!

I have a series of posts diving into game mechanics and haven't made one in a while. You can see the list of existing posts here (you may need to click the tab on the bottom of the page, sometimes it won't link directly or maybe it never links directly, im not sure).

What game mechanic would YOU like to see similar deep dives into?

Currently I'm thinking about Layoffs and Work Rivals, but I'd like to read more ideas before I go into another one (they take a good chunk of time to compile information on).

  • I have to admit to being curious about Layoffs. I've dealt with several Work Rivals through the years, but have never encountered a Layoff, even though I know they are mentioned in the game. I'm just wondering if an in-game Layoff is just for a short period and then the sim can go back to their career. Or if it's like they are during an RL bad economic time, where you get laid off - rather than outright fired - so that way you're not able to claim Unemployment benefits. (Which is just plain cruddy of a company to do, because they've already paid for your unemployment benefits while you were working for them; it's not like they suddenly need to pay more just because an ex-employee starts a new claim.)

I just made the post about Layoffs! It's pretty much random when they happen, and after the layoff you can't rejoin the career for a while, but you can eventually!

  • That's a nice list you have compiled there many thanks and congrats on being highlighted in the Friday-Highlights Waffle ❤️

  • Thank you very much for your thoughtful analyses of various parts of the Sims 4 gameplay! Although I have quite a few game mechanics I am interested to learn more about, my biggest interest is in Sim autonomy and what all that encompasses. I am a player who quite enjoys just watching my Sims live their lives (and taking screenshots at opportune moments), but I am eternally debating to what degree I can let them do this and how often I need to intervene to actually get things accomplished, such as continuing the family line or making money via a job. Just an idea! thank you again for the interesting posts you have already made.
