As mentioned the fireworks worked well for me years ago when I needed to burn down the Landgraab home for a story. It took a while for fireworks to work, some would just blow up in my sims face. It takes a couple of attempts to get it work but the outcome is worth it. They created a spectacle when I tried them but I just can't get enough items burning at the same time to really get the result I was looking for. I feel like it's doable it's just going to take time and patience to put enough items in the room to really get it going. The fire doesn't seem to spread quickly to moves slowly from one item to the next and there's never more than a handful burning at once.
