What is the point of a sack lunch - if any at all?

I sent my teen Sim to school with the first ever sacked lunch I have ever prepared - ever. He didn't eat it - he has a spoiled sack lunch in his inventory. I only notice it when I told him to do...

This thread is old but something I noticed - If I drag the sack lunch into my Sims inventory, they won't eat it even if they are hungry - applies to both adults and kids. If I click the item and have them put it in their inventory, they WILL eat it while at work or school and come home from work or school with a happy moodlet.
