What is the point of a sack lunch - if any at all?

I sent my teen Sim to school with the first ever sacked lunch I have ever prepared - ever. He didn't eat it - he has a spoiled sack lunch in his inventory. I only notice it when I told him to do...

When at the spice festival you can get a lot of free food from there and learn a lot of new recipes. I think when teens or kids make a packed lunch it builds their 'responsablity' or is it manners? not sure.
