Except for the first, my rules probably count as Story/Challenge, but here it goes anyways:
- Fertile Saturday (in my legacy save only)
Every week at saturday I check which of the unplayed housed sims have developed romances, pair them up and create a child for couples in the adult range. I may move sims from the gallery, CAS or the homeless bin into houses.
The maximum number of sims to move in/get born is determined by the empty slots. Slots can be generated by the legacy household only: 1 slot per gold party and 1 slot whenever a houshold member reaches level 6 in Charisma (this mechanic I borrowed from the Settler Challenge by Aislynne). This is suitable for smaller towns only. If your world grows, you may want to roll a die and add the result to the available slots each week.
- Penalty system
Every misbehaviour results in a penalty point. This includes brawls in public, mouthy mailmen, playing the guitar in the library, trashcan kicking and so on. Reaching top level in the Criminal Career or Secret Agent (Villain branch) also results in a penalty point.
Four points translate to transfer to the prison household for 3 days or more, depending on the crime.
- University EP substitute
YA sims get moved to a college household for one week. Strictly studying, little leisure.
Bachelor degree is achieved when a sim has amassed all the skilled needed for the basic tiers of a career of their choosing. Bachelor degree is the prequestite to buy career oriented reward traits.
If they amassed all the skills to max out a specialized branch of a career, they get awarded doctor degree. Doctors may not only buy the reward traits, but I explicitely allow myself to cheat on their behalf to my heart's content. But mostly this title is just used for roleplaying purpose, like writing "Gunther is the principal of Newcrest community college" in the household bios.
In place of college I used military service for a long time, but then the government changed (see below)
- Periodic elections via GT
Every political party gets created as a club. Every club has the same rules and may use a hangout specifically prepared for the campaign for 24 hours. The party with the most unspent club points wins.
The catch: Before the campaign start, you write down at least 2 laws and one venue for every party that the party promises to introduce. You have adher to the outcome.
Those are great ideas!! I'm so going to turn Magnolia Promenade into a small college town for my YAs! I will probably use the club system too, making an adult/professor be the leader of the club and making the club gather for skill related activities! So excited to try this out! :)
As regards my gameplay, I don't think I've invented anything like that. However I downloaded the modded ATM from mod the sims and have introduced a more realistic banking and inheritance system. Eg the other day one of my teen sims and her baby sister lost their parents in a house fire. They were very rich and lived in one of the best houses in Willow Creek. However, since they are both minors they had to move in with their grandmother who lives in Widenbourg. I went to the ATM and took all the money from selling their parents house and belongings and put it in a cheque. Now each daughter has a $125,000 cheque in their inventory which they'll be able to cash when they turn 21 (i.e. Become young adults).
