Yes, yes, calendars are nice and all.
I don't think anybody is saying calendars shouldn't be in the game period, or that they'll be totally useless. But critics are concerned they're not all they're being cracked up to be, since they are being touted by a biased source, and aren't sure that what they'll add is worth what's been left out.
I've been saying it over and over, that nothing was left out because the devs didn't care. It's a dev's job to make a great game. Unfortunately it's EA's job to pulp as much money out of that game as they can. And it has been observed that EA doesn't want some money, or lots of money. They want ALL of the money. They arrange the advertising and events like EA play and say things like "Paid-for lootboxes aren't gambling and we're going to keep doing them".
And they can make lots more money by cutting the budget for a game that will sell well regardless. This means unrealistic time constraints and EA replacing one team with a team that will do things their way. Seasons is out at least two months earlier than we'd all expected. Lots of people are delighted and hey, I don't blame them. But you can't get a quality product unless you put the time in.
Unrealistic time constraints mean the devs CAN'T put all the stuff they would like to in. They have to choose, and they have to choose fast. So they choose what's easier and faster.
No matter how cool calendars are, the Gurus should not be saying it's the best ever when they've already confirmed Sims 4 Seasons will be lacking things that Sims 3 had. it's just not logical.
You could only say it was the best if it had all of Sims 3 (made better natch) AND new stuff.
