Expansion Packs
Must-have:
Seasons - It changes the game drastically in a good way: The calender gives your Sims lives structure. From Love Day to New Year resolutions there are a lot of "holidays" the Sim year has. You can even create your own or delete the ones you don't like. The weather system also brings new challenges to your game and a lot of nice new clothing options for all ages and genders.
Follow-up:
Get Together - Windenburg is the greatest world in The Sims 4 so far. It has lots of interesting pre-made Sims and a nice CAS and B/B. The club system is great for family gatherings or for meeting Sims with same interests. They can gain skill points while meeting and it makes the game more alive when you play with a different houshold and see them meeting at a place in town (e.g. swimming pool).
Game Packs
Must-have:
Parenthood - This makes playing with families more meaningful. Kids and teens get school projects (mum and dad can help with these) and they get mood swings, phases and can get new traits when they become young adults.
Follow-up:
Spa Day - The wellness skill is great especially for Sims in stressful careers. I like watching them meditating or doing yoga as their morning/evening routine. You can even unlock new recipies while leveling up the skill.
Stuff Packs
Must have:
Nifty Knitting - Plopsy is so much fun! You can sell your painitings, wood objects, etc. there. My teen Sims often use this instead of a part-time-job. Leveling up the skill you can unlock clothes/items you can knit that are not available any other way. I love this part of realism in the game.
Follow-up:
Kids Room Stuff - Being a family player this is a must-have for me, too. It gives kids new clothing options and new things to do (collecting voidcritter cards (there are even limited edition cards) and playing with the puppet theater) and it adds a new TV channel with a matching voidcritter TV-show.
And if you just can't get enough of good Simming, following packs are also worth a look: City Living (EP), Get Famous (EP), Discover University (EP), Dine Out (GP), Vintage Glamour (SP) and Tiny Living (SP).
