Those are all interesting ideas. I would go for a young engaged couple with a baby on the way. And because they are broke it would also be rags to riches style. They could live in sulani or forgotten hollow, whatever suits your style. If I were to start this story I would probably end up with something supernatural like a spellcaster or an alien but that's personal flavour.
