Well, they would all be distinguished degrees. If he did economics or biology he'd just go to Foxbury. I don't think I said anything about having to go to Brightchester lol.
Also I'm not too worried about bills just yet, as he's got a full ride with scholarships to university to the point that I'm pretty sure he's gonna GET money when he enrolls, his roommate makes a fair amount with his painting, they have some reserves left over from what their parents gave them, they both have the frugal trait, and all the green energy devices on the lot have lowered bills a fair amount. So, my main concerns are 1: what's going to help complete the Academic aspiration, and 2: what fits for the character.
Well, okay - any major is going to help him complete the Academic aspiration. The final feather in the cap comes about if he could use his degree to land him a relevant job. Making him join the Debate Guild in Britchester could potentially expedite the process of raising his research and debate skill so I guess it all boils down to whether or not that's what you want to do.
"What fits for the character" really isn't up to us to say. With these stated traits and skillset anybody can argue their points about what they think is best for him. Ultimately, it's your gameplay so you get to decide which career track he chooses to embark on. We can only pitch ideas as to how he can potentially benefit.
Yes, I mentioned in the original post about the debate guild at Brightchester, but majoring in economics would also help get Research and Debate up. That was kind part of the question--debate guild at Brightchester, or Economics at Foxbury? Doing Biology at Foxbury would be the hardest in terms of completing the aspiration, but might fit the character perhaps, cause of liking fitness and being physically talented from childhood, plus both that and Economics lead to the Conservationist career, which seems like something he'd be interested in. But, on the other hand, Culinary is appealing because he got the Food and Drink scholarship and would be following his family legacy, so majoring in that makes sense storywise as well. That's basically the debate I've been having with myself--while some are a bit easier in terms of the aspiration, each one has its appeal in terms of story and character, and I'm having trouble deciding as I like them all to some degree.
I explained all this initially in the first post, but I'm restating as there seems to be some confusion. Making money is pretty easy in the game, so that's never a concern for me, and I was mostly just taking a poll for the fun of it, as I'm equally interested in all the potential paths. If I had one I thought clearly fit the character more than the others, I wouldn't have asked anyone else in the first place. But as it is, it's all more or less equal to me--even if some will be a bit more "hard mode" in terms of the aspiration (as I said, Biology at Foxbury would probably be the hardest in terms of the aspiration, for instance), I'm prepared to do that, cause I don't mind a challenge and I've completed this aspiration a couple times already--and so I thought it'd be fun to ask what other people thought made sense for the character, since I think they ALL fit pretty well. I didn't list any thought didn't fit the character--they're all reflective of different aspects of his personality and story, as I outlined in my initial description.
I'm not really sure what you mean by "feather in the cap for a relevant job". All the degrees lead to careers, all the careers can be "relevant"--culinary, conservationist, and musician all make sense for him as a person. And all the careers can make money, so again, I'm not really sure what difference it makes in terms of that. What fits the character IS up to you to say, because I've given you the options of things that all fit the character. There are no bad story options presented, and I like all of them. I asked because I thought it'd be fun to have other people decide, because I enjoy a certain element of randomness challenge in my games in places. If there was a clear "right" answer, I wouldn't have asked anyone else. I was just asking people to pick their personal favorite for the character from a list of options that are pretty much equally appealing.
