It depends on what kind of Sim I plan for them to be, or the gameplay type in a challenge. However, the majority of my Sims start out Rags to Riches style and I almost always give them loves outdoors.
Creative Sims get creative for inspiration, genius for those who need to be focused. Sims placed in an area without a park, minimal plants to harvest or no vendors, might get the glutton trait so they can rummage for food. Love the animations for this trait, it's hilarious how much they adore food! :D
The loner, erratic (which I love to no end) and childish traits are good for social needs in various ways. Erratic also has the 'shower in the rain' action to fill hygiene, so that's another plus. I like dance machine for the 'disco nap' option. It fills the energy bar very quickly. Unfortunately, the constant dance animation when idle is extremely annoying so I don't use it very often.
I've used almost all the traits for my Sims over the years (except mean, evil & hates children) but, my favorite and most important trait will always and forever be loves outdoors with creative/genius tied for second place and erratic third.
I actually like the "dancing in place" thing they do, I've known people in real life that do that lol
