What skills can vampires inherit...?

A while back I mentioned that it would be really nice if inherited skills were a more common thing among child vampires. I know that woohooing as bats means that the baby inherits the bat trait and two of my vampires have this skill.

I am trying to work out whether the following is part of the vampire powers bug issue or whether this is just a thing in the game that I didn't notice before.

I have a vampire called Giuseppe. He is the son of Cesar Vatore and a female townie vampire. He was born in my game ages ago but I have not played with him very much; he has one son who only just started to live with him.

Today I was playing a different sim vampire on his detective career path during the daytime. This sim is sun immune so works days. One of the witnesses at the crime scene and outside the police station was Giuseppe. Only he didn't burn.

I have just loaded his house and although he is not a high enough level vampire to learn sun immunity, he has it anyway. Cesar has sun immunity and so I was wondering whether this is bug related or whether he did actually somehow inherit this skill from Cesar without my noticing.

I haven't played with him much but I am sure I would have noticed it if it had been there before.

The other thing that makes me wonder if it was a bug was that another of my vampires was out in the sun earlier and I didn't notice her burning either. Her mother was sun immune I think but I can't remember, she was a gallery sim. I haven't checked her yet.

Has anyone any idea whether any other traits are meant to be inherited aside bats? Or are we seeing added skills as well as removed skills? O.o.

Edit to add - I just checked his son, who has done zero training. He also has sun immunity selected:

I am now going to go and check the female vampire in the other house. I know that this hasn't happened to all my vampires, as the ones I was playing earlier who lack immunity still had the 'uncomfortable' icon when they stepped outside. But I am pretty sure I would have noticed if this trait had suddenly become heritable...O.O.
  • Wow, thank you for taking the time to go through all your sims like that!
    Editing for clarity :)

The female sim (Charlotte) does indeed have sun immunity. Her mother also had sun immunity. Her father, however, was human. She was visiting her human siblings when I first realised she was odd because she wasn't flaming during the day. So thus far I have three sims with added sun immunity that I can't explain.

I have no added points that shouldn't be there. I tend to hoard points to get higher level skills so that's why Gustav has 9.

My own grand master sim (my avatar sim) Aubrey also has sun immunity. He has eight children. None of them have inherited the trait from him. One of his children shares a mother with Giuseppe's son Gustav. Gustav has sun immunity but Aubrey's daughter doesn't (although both parents had sun immunity in her case).

I checked my other vampire dynasty, the Goth inheritance. There are five in the Goth mansion and one daughter who lives with her husband and children nearby.
Grandfather Colby (the patriarch), his son Kane, Kane's wife Eliannah and their two teen children Sy and Grace are all NOT showing sun immunity. The only weirdness I found was that Colby did not have the option to choose Vampiric Slumber although he has no weakness associated with sleep. (This was at home, not on a public lot).
Daughter Dianna and her husband Cameron Kai and brother in law also show no signs.

Cameron Kai is the grandson of Aubrey.

I just repaired my game. I then went and checked Gustav and Giuseppe again. They are still sun immune.

I am leaning towards this being related to the vampire power bug and that it is maybe a lot more complex than we thought. And maybe that's why it hasn't been patched yet, because it is more complex.

I actually LIKE the idea that a trait can be randomly manifested. I think it's more realistic, especially if the parent had that skill, and it would give some bonus for creating vampire dynasties. But arbitrary adding and removing them is a bit...concerning?
  • On this subject, I wonder whether this is a connection between them. Do you guys have Get to Work installed?
The sims who have been suddenly sun immune in my game have appeared at crime scenes as witnesses. It's when I first noticed that this was going on. I don't know if their being at those scenes as NPC witnesses meant the game gave them sun immunity or if the game for some reason gave them immunity and then they appeared as witnesses. In any case, even with the apparent fixes to vampire powers in patches (which don't actually fix everything, incidentally, I still have moments where powers are greyed out in the selection frame) these sims remain sun immune :/ It actually has worked out well for Gustav, because he is a scientist, he's now fascinated with aliens to the point he's got 2 alien kids and 1 grandkid of his own...but even so, it was rather unexpected....
  • I've actually recently had many vamps in new save games all just have perfect sun immunity for some plum reason. I mean, why? What's the point in all these vamps if they all can walk around in the day like it's perfectly normal?
  • I have GTW installed yes, but these are modded save games too. Plus I haven't had anyone go into those GTW careers in any played households. The ranges of vamps in this save game seem to be every single one of them with sun immunity though, while in my main, unmodded save game the only vamp that had been given sun immunity was a CAS-made sim I never played which the game made into a food stall vendor. In that game, most of the other vampires have a habit of almost burning to a crisp instead.
