Just as an update: Speculation has now moved away from from a French or French inspired world, but rather now leaning towards an American inspired world that has Scandinavian influence such as Minnesota. Due to the "Take a dip in Lake Lunvik" hint. If not a fully Scandinavian inspired world, anyway. :)
I have seen that speculation but I don't personally understand it. I get why people feel it may be Scandinavian, but then why wouldn't it just be based on the actual Scandinavian region of the world? It seems like people were initially focused on the Pacific Coast due to lumber mills and the red woods, which made sense, but when the Scandinavian thing popped up it just got mashed into the preexisting speculation of an American environment. But mills aren't American.
I tend to think they are going to be pulling from several places with good werewolf lore and mixing those elements together. If that be the case it would make sense if we see elements from France, through Germany, up into Norway (Basically Western Europe)..
It being called Moonwood Mill is why I think it is based on an English-speaking location. Having a lake with a Norse name rules out UK as probable. US is just a likely place to encounter place names from different parts of the world side by side like that.
I guess I can see why you would be pulled towards that, and maybe that is accurate. But I just keep thinking the last Scandinavian based world they gave us was Aurora Skies in Sims 3. They didn't give that world a Scandinavian name either.
Plus we still don't know Moonwood Mill is the name of the world. It could be a lot, or a neighborhood, or something..
