I don't know, but I really feel your pain! This exact thing happened to me the other day - I'd been playing through the generations to get to this specific sim, moved him out to start his YA life in his new place, and within 1 sim day the cooker caught on fire and he burned to death ignoring all pleas from me to extinguish himself, whilst listening to the sound of the fire alarm! Luckily I'd just saved it before he moved, so I could just exit and start again! I've now stopped having fire alarms as there is no point, and I've downloaded MC Command so I can auto save regularly...
