I use a mix of downloads (nearly always renovated) and my own builds. I am still so much in love with the build mode for Sims 4 it's crazy. Such a huge improvement over Sims 1 & 2. Where before it was a chore, now I love to build!!
IRL I like Victorian, Mediterranean, Craftsman, Farmhouses... anything but Modern.
Many of my larger houses have basements for the gym stuff and anything else I can't fit above stairs.
When I got Tiny Living this summer I played with them quite a bit but I have realized that I am mostly a failure at Tiny Living. I prefer bigger houses in my game. Tiny Living is ok for one sim but harder for 2. That business where you only have room for 1 or 2 chairs for your dining room table got old quick, so all my Tiny Homes had to grow a bit. Then I kept needing more space for things like treadmills and chess boards, painting easels, etc. I got around that by putting everything that wouldn't fit in the house into the backyard because I didn't have Seasons. However, at the end of October I succumbed to the lure of the 50% off to get Seasons, and now I keep wondering what the heck I was thinking. Now I have to redo all those yards. :# And make sure each house is snow proof. Ugh.
