- I've found if you try to have date in a public place random sims wander in and turn the mood to awkward. A park is a bit easier to avoid that since you're not trapped in a building with a whole gaggle of Buzz Killington's. But homes are the safest for keeping the mood set just right.
- Myshuno Meadows. It's very rare that townies interrupt the date. They sit at the fireplace, they can cook together there, bathrooms are close. It feels private. Plus there is the observatory for the, ya know.
- SweetieWright_84New SpectatorI seem to always take my sims to restaurants, even if they just order drinks. If I have my teen sims date, I take them to my bowling alley/restaurant or the Cafe/arcade in Magnolia Promenade.
I use the Remove Sims from Conversation by ThePancake1 and MizoreYukii so interruptions aren't so bad. - Tbh its very rare I actually do date event with my sims even if i do lots of romance and couples
I guess I just tend to creepily hit on them at the streets or wherever my sims run into them and then invite them over or go over to their house to hangout without being all "this is a date" about it  like idk fateful encounters not planned ones i guess
if theres local venues that suit the sims i may take them to hangout in those places though - I use to do restaurants but dine out is to messed up right now so its usually the park.
- I don't really have one go-to location, it really does vary depending on the Sims, but going out to dinner or a lunch date at a restaurant is definitely one that I do most often. I have a lot of restaurants in my game, 12 in total, which is more than any other non-residential lot type other than bar, and I spent a LOT of time setting each of them up to be a unique experience.
The restaurants in my game are not just places to "get a meal" and there are other activities at almost all of them so they make for very good date locations. - VWoodsongSeasoned ObserverI rarely have my sims initiate dates any more because I find that the goal-oriented play isn't really my thing. But I do let them accept dates if someone else invites them. Well, unless the caller wants to go all the way to Selvadorada and isn't wealthy enough to justify going so far just for one outing and/or if my active sim isn't a Selvadoradan person by birth. I also don't let them accept dates to a furniture store or something unless there are good story reasons to let them do so. I don't really know why retail venues are even on the list for potential date locations. Unless I've customized them myself (which is rare), they pretty much never have typical date stuff to do.
All that said, on the rare occasions when I do have mine initiate a first date, it's usually very casual. That usually means an outing at a park or an evening at home. - OldeSimsFanNew TravelerLocation of choice is one of 2 restaurants I've made that is multipurpose. Layouts differ, but both also include a bar, gym of whatever size, small library, game room, and hotel type rooms.
- Kimmer_oneRising TravelerIt depends on if I know the traits of the Sim that my Sim is going on a date with. I like to choose the place with that knowledge, for example I made my Sim take Catarina Lynx to a cat cafe and she loved it. ;)
The later dates are usually in the restaurant, park or movies but I like to vary the places. I don't care if the Sims get distracted by other Sims, it just makes the date more fun and challenging, it doesn't have to be perfect. They can mingle with other Sims too and be social even on their dates, because if my Sim will end up together with his date they'll have enough time to be alone together later. I don't mind if they don't get gold dates every time. - FanphoriaNew SpectatorI find festivals, like the ones that come with City Living, make for pretty neat first date vibes. Romance Festival obviously lends itself to that, but I've found Humor and Hijinks Festival, Spice Festival, Geek Con, and even the Snowy Escape ones like the Festival of Light and Snow Festival make for pretty good first dates too. There's usually some stuff to do, it's casual, it's fun, and gives a bit of a framework and atmosphere beyond just "sit and stare at each other saying stuff till something clicks." So, if there happens to be a festival going on close to when I wanna schedule I date, I'll usually go to wherever that festival happens to be, which of course varies depending on what it is.
