I hate the suspenders and the fact that we don't have pride t-shirts in the BG and it feels like rainbow-taxing. Diversity and inclusivity shouldn't come at a premium, simmers shouldn't have to buy a black hairstyles pack to get nicely textured curly hair and afro hairstyles, Indian people shouldn't have to buy a pack to get mehndi and LGBT+ people shouldn't have to buy this kit to get a bisexual, transgender, lesbian or gay Pride flag T-shirt.
Rainbow taxing? Ah come on now. This is a life simulator. Going by this mindset the Sims 4 and all its content should be free because it always represents something of some culture in some way. It is inspired by life, culture and lifestyles. Should Snowy Escape be free because it would be disrespectful to the Japanese to lock Japanese inspired gameplay behind a paywall?
Like @Zims4 stated, rainbow shirts have been added to Basegame.
In fact, over the years we’ve gotten plenty of free content that promotes diversity and inclusivity.
I think at this point we should cut Maxis some slack regarding this ongoing representation game. Based on the free updates we’ve been offered so far, I find that there is a pretty good balance between non-paid and paid content that supports diversity. If the company insists on continuing this trend, no one should have a reason to complain. Except there will always be someone complaining.
The studio is actually working on a customizable pronoun update as we speak, which is specifically geared towards the LGBT+ community.
Remember, not all of us need a wardrobe full of rainbow gear or Turbans. Some is free, some is paid. We’re offered a basic selection, which is wonderful, but if one feels the need to expand upon that selection, it is up to each individual to determine whether or not that content is worth paying for. We’re dealing with a business here, not a charity organization.
For example, I would like an Ireland inspired pack, which automatically means we should get fairies. Fairies are inherent to my culture, but I don’t expect to get that GP or EP for free either. ?
Back to the latest kit topic. I don’t own it just yet, although I’ve been getting a bit more inspiration from this kit than the previous kit. And that’s saying something. Also, to me the rainbow patterns in this Carnaval Streetwear Kit are completely unrelated to LGTB+. If it’s meant that way, fine, however, my game has nothing to do with another person’s game or idealisms.
I have Kimono wearing aliens covered in Mehndi. They’re from another planet.
I’d pay for anything culture related if that means I can grow my alien colonies. The game doesn’t represent real life to me. My game is less crazy that’s for sure.
Anyway, If the combination of color, texture and style works for me, than that’s what some of my sims will wear. Happy to pay for any of it as long as inspiration hits me hard. ?
