OH, thanks for taking the time to find that answer, @HopeyStarr! That really helps explain why I have so few compared to others; I use a mod that assigns existing sims to service roles, so they live in regular houses in my game. I just have to make sure to not switch and actually "play" them, because that removes them from the role (and surely is why they are hidden normally).
I also have never done the detective career (yet). I'm waiting for the perfect sim child to come along into one of my households. I randomize traits as children grow up, so traits are how I decide what career they get.
