What's Your Most Common Community Lots?

Lucky you! :) I found that I posted about that particular library lot, incl. pictures, on my blog years ago.

Ooooh, let's see here.

Top 5 venues for me are Bars, (often don't switch out the ones always being put in game so yeah sure!) Parks, Libraries, Restaurants, and Gyms. I should give a special shout-out to restaurants since that's one we always have to put in oursleves. It's just a nice way of getting some differing regional foods in. And also, from my experience as someone who grew up in a TINY town out in the country in US, bars are not quite as ubiquitous as having a dining spot will be.

Least used is Thrift-and-Bubble-Tea, Arts Center and the Onsen, with one each. Thrift and Bubble Tea is a super niche combo on it's own. As much as I like the process of actually shopping a limited selection of clothes to make new looks is, I could also just add those racks onto a retail lot. But to add an addtional point on, I may have 4 retail lots, but I hardly if ever think to visit them. -shrugs wildly- It's only if a materalistic sim gets their whims up and I go, "Ah sure, let's go window shopping."

Onsen has the trouble of being something culturally specific to Japan that I can't really feel like placing it elsewhere, even if it could be a simple hot springs in another world.

But as for Arts Center, do not knock it! I use it all the time within San Myshuno as a both a museum to visit, and a place to level any artistic endeavor. Just typing this out made me realize that this would actually probably be even more fitting for the ever crafty folks at Evergreen Harbor than the Museum currently is and I should make to replace that!

...I guess I should fold in National Parks with regular parks but I more think of national parks as campsites. Outside of the one in Del Sol Valley, that's been shifted to just be something of an art feature. Maybe I could put the cafe I had originally back in but eh.

Sorry I haven't dropped back sooner, folks, I've got the flu and only just getting up and about and back at my computer again. I have enjoyed reading through all of your interesting replies - there are some fab ideas for things that I would never have thought of myself. That's my favourite thing about the forum, sharing different ideas and taking some of those ideas back to our gameplay to try out.

Awww, I especially like the sound of the Finchwick café as it seems like just the kind of place I would like to visit irl. Tea and scones and a bit of cross-stich.

I need to update my reply. I said I can not check because I'm currently abroad and away from my game. But who was I fooling? Of course I brought a spreadsheet on my laptop, who wouldn't bring anything related to their favorite game when going 3 weeks away to work on a project? Ha!

I assume the numbers are a mix of actual lots and planned lots, plus a few worlds might not be included. But hey-ho, it actually gave me a few surprises anyway:

12 Restaurants
11 Bars
7 Retail
6 Library
6 Parks

I'm most surprised that I have this many restaurants. I love restaurants and how customizable they are. Looks like I should visit them a little more often, not just build them :)

I don't have statistics on my game but over half of the community lots added to the game just stay as they are. 

My most used community lots are

• bars: a general spot to meet new sims. I have disabled bar nights with mccc. 
• Restaurants (about 5 or 6 across the entire save, my favourite one let's me unlock batuu recipes). I love sending sims there on dates. Each has a different menu which I like 
•  Libraries and museums : I put these two together because they feel like cultural and educational places. They are useful to have access to books, computers and other items early on in a save file
• (national) Parks : simple but useful to explore a neighborhood 
• Magic headquarters : it's a fixed lot type but I like to go to there with spellcasters. I renovated it to include a full kitchen, formal dining area, conservatory/indoor plant room, dorms, classrooms and a library. 

The least used are

• the thrift store : no interest 
• Onsen : one Onsen to start the mountain expedition is all I need 
• Vet clinic : I rarely have pets. At most I go there for a flash visit to buy treats for sick pets 
• Celebrity Hotspot : technically not a lot type but I never use it. 

For the least used I generally keep the original one in the game for the unlikely occasion where I need the specific gameplay.

Why Do Venue Types Exist?

For some reason, it seems like Sims 4 players aren't aware that Venues exist to determine the behavior of a lot, and all serve a specific purpose. Some have more purpose than others. Some open up more features than others. But they all adjust how Sims behave when visiting them- which can be important for how you want the venue to look and feel, even if the actual gameplay distinctions aren't that strong.

It's best to think of a Venue Type as a sort of "Lot Personality". There's Challenges and Lot Traits, too, obviously, but the Venue itself determines a number of things:

-Which sorts of Sims are likely to show up, and when
-Which NPC roles (Vendor, Pianist, Bartender, etc) show up, and when
-Which special interactions are available on the lot
-Which events can be run on the lot
-What Sims are likely to do while visiting
-Certain adjustments to things like motives or skill gains
-How Sims with certain Traits react to the environment

Haha, sounds good to me having a game spreadsheet to look  at whilst away from home! I too love restaurants but don't visit them often enough - but I love the diversity. Anything from a McSims in San Myshuno, to a seafood place in Brindleton Bay, to an alien-themed experimental in Strangerville.
